Rainbow Sandstone

Rainbow Sandstone is Indian sandstone at its most expressive. Where most natural stones offer tonal consistency — variations within a single colour family — Rainbow Sandstone presents a vivid spectrum of colours within a single slab: russet reds, warm browns, creamy buffs, slate greys, and occasional streaks of purple and mauve running across the surface in flowing, horizontal bands. Each slab is entirely unique.

Quarried in Rajasthan and processed to export standards at Stone Harbor, this stone commands attention in any application. It is not a subtle background material — it is a design statement, and it is most effectively used in settings where its natural drama can be the focal point.

Origin and Composition

Rainbow Sandstone is a sedimentary stone from Rajasthan, India. Its extraordinary colour variation is the result of alternating mineral-rich layers formed during the stone’s geological deposition — different concentrations of iron oxide, manganese, and other trace minerals creating the distinctive banded patterns. The quartz-dominant matrix gives it good structural integrity and weather resistance despite the complex colouration.

The colour distribution varies significantly between slabs and even across a single piece. Selecting for colour matching on large-scale installations requires careful lot management, which Stone Harbor manages at the sourcing stage.
